Andrew joined Liberty Life as a medical underwriter in January 1983 and was approached by the Liberty Management Academy in 1988 to join the sales team as an Agent. He has been active in the marketing of Corporate, Life Assurance, Disability and Investment products ever since.

Andrew has been a member of the Life Underwriters Association of South Africa (LUASA) since 1989. Andrew is an accredited Corporate Benefits Advisor and is an Associate of the Financial Planning Institute and has a diploma in Personal Financial Management and is a member of the Institute of Life and Pensions.

In 1991 Andrew received the International Quality Award in recognition of quality underwriting service to the public, and has received it a number of years subsequently. Qualified for the Million-Dollar Round Table for the last fourteen years and attended the MDRT conference in Toronto in June 2001 as a member of the exclusive “Court of the Table”. His focus has always been Corporate Benefits and high net worth individuals. A large portion of his business has been acquired through referrals from existing clients.


Alan Johnston

Alan started his career in the short term insurance industry in 1991 in the sales department of Auto & General. In 1992, he left to start a small brokerage which he built up and ran until joining forces with another small outfit which became a company called CIB Insurance Solutions. Over the following 10 years, they built this business up to large and very successful company. In 2006 Alan sold his shareholding in CIB to form Insurance Zone Insurance Brokers. At the time of his exit, CIB was capitalized at over R 100 million.

Alan has completed his Certificate of Proficiency and has obtained his ICIBS qualifications in short term insurance. He has completed numerous other courses in the field of short term insurance and is currently busy with his Higher Certificate in business studies.

Alan has a very good understanding and aptitude for the short term insurance industry, particularly with regards to domestic insurance, and this is where he is put to good use by innovative product development and rating to the benefit of his clients.

Stuart joined the Life Assurance industry in April 1983, where he spent the first seven years as a corporate benefits advisor for Liberty Life in Durban. He moved into the individual sales market,working as a broker for First Bowrings until he was approached to join the Southern Life management team in 1996. In a space of just over 3 years he recruited and developed a team of consultants, which was recognised as the top branch in 2000. In 2001 Liberty Life approached Stuart to join the management team in Johannesburg and to build and manage a team of consultants in the Edenvale region. In 2005 Stuart and his team were again recognised as the top branch nationally for that year.

Stuart has a passion and an unending desire to help people grow and achieve their own personal goals. He is highly regarded in the industry as a coach/mentor, and as a person of unquestionable integrity.

Anton started his career at Liberty Life in 1997 after completing his BCom Insurance Science (Hons) degree at the University of Pretoria. Anton became a Liberty Life bursary holder in his second year of study.

After a further three years of part time study Anton qualified as an Actuary in 2000 and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in London as well as a qualified member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa.

For a five year period up to and including 2005, Anton was a member of the Liberty Corporate Benefits management committee and headed up the Product Development department. During that period, he was also promoted to divisional director and retained responsibility for the Underwriting and Special quotes areas. In this capacity he was also responsible for annually reviewing the group risk benefit rates and has extensive pricing experience and knowledge of the impact of HIV/AIDS on the market.

Anton has a strong technical background and has been instrumental in the design, development and implementation of several system solutions at Liberty Life including the data warehouse.


Prakashnie Bageloo

Prakashnie joined Liberty Life in 2000 as an administration assistant in the Medical Scheme division. In 2001 she joined Andrew Roos as full time administrator, responsible for all aspects of Corporate Benefits and personal policy administration, over the past 6 years. In this area, her in depth understanding of the administration processes underlying all types of life insurance and employee benefit products, meticulous record keeping and attention to detail, improved the efficiency of Andrew’s entire operation. During the past 2 years Prakashnie has established and developed meaningful relationships with several service providers, which ensures that our client’s business receives priority servicing at all levels.

In 2006 she attained her certificate with the Financial Planning Institute of South Africa as a Registered Financial Planner, and is currently continuing her studies in order to keep abreast of the ever changing insurance and financial services industry.

As Administration Manager for Insurance Zone Actuaries & Consultants, Prakashnie is now leveraging her knowledge and skills to build a dedicated and motivated administration team, to provide customers with a professional and personal servicing experience unmatched by any other provider.



Michael Boddington

Michael matriculated in 1997, where he went straight into teaching and running a sports department at a high and primary school.  At the same time he started studying his B. Com at RAU (Currently UJ), where he majored in Business management, Industrial Psychology, Exercise Physiology and sports medicine.  In 2005 he left teaching and joined Toyota in their sales team where he excelled and also won numerous awards. 

In April 2008 he decided to join Insurance Zone Actuaries and consultants, where he has gained valuable experience.  He won the Insurance Zone consultant of the year award in 2009.  He has been through various training programs with Liberty Life and has over time managed to restructure many client’s portfolios - saving them money.  He believes that product knowledge is his greatest asset and allows him to offer the client the best solutions for their needs.

Roger joined Liberty Life in 1988 where he gained significant industry experience working within various departments. He had the pleasure of working in a line department known as policy changes.  He was also a supervisor of various teams.  From 1992 he worked in the field as a trainer, developing and supporting Agency financial advisors, Brokers, Franchises, SBFC, Nedband and all support staff.

He was also the Head of Liberty new recruit training department for a number of years as well as the Section Head of the Endorsement department.

Roger decided to further his career and joined Insurance Zone.  In order to ensure long and lasting relationships with every client , he places emphasis on obtaining a genuine understanding of his client’s needs and requirements, and in so doing meet their objectives.  The personal relationships on which he believes his success is based will continue to provide his clients and their families with the financial peace of mind that their future generations will benefit from.


Kobus Louw

Kobus’s working career spans 43 years, half of which has involved sales and sales management of scientific equipment, computer based training and management consultancy. The other half has been with Liberty Life as an Agency Consultant, primarily in corporate assurance and retirement funds. Especially in the latter, Liberty’s on-going training combined with academic qualifications in science, mathematics and economics stood him in good stead. His portfolio of pension and provident funds provided some R 30 million in annual premium income and R 200 million in assets at its height.  Although semi-retired as from June 2009, Kobus joined Insurance Zone as a franchise agent to facilitate the handover of his corporate business, and to focus his skills and experience on the retirement fund industry.
